Name/Something we can call you: HuangMD
AIM Name: lj HuangMD
RP experience:
I have played several RP’s online but nothing as textual as this and I am really looking forward to the challenge.
Writing experience: I have written several ficlets and even some mid-length fiction pieces. Most of my experience has been with slash topics but I think I understand this character and can do him justice.
Character you're applying for: Dr. George Huang
Why are you interested in playing this character?
I believe that Dr. Huang is seriously underappreciated and I think I can bring something to this character.
(for this part, please be descriptive)
--Character's age: 44
(Born: October 24, 1962), San Francisco, CA.
--Their squad: FBI attached / working for the 16th Precinct
--If it's a non-canon character, physical description –
Sex: Male
Height: 5’4 ½”
Ethnic Descent: Chinese American
--Family/Educational background of character
Family: I have one sibling and sister and both my parents are still alive, though due to choices in my life we are now estranged.
I was born on 24 October 1962 in San Francisco California. After graduating first in my class from Lincoln High School I attended San Francisco University. I completed my undergraduate work and obtained a B.A. in psychology and obtained a M.A. in Ethic Studies and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology.
After graduating from the University of San Francisco I obtained a PhD in Forensic Psychology from Harvard University before joining the FBI. One of my first assignments was working with repeat sexual offenders at Bellevue in New York. Initially I was motivated by a genuine belief that I could rehabilitate them and work diligently to prove just that, but unfortunately after several years I became disillusioned when it was obvious that most of the offenders were not interested in participating in their own rehabilitation. Instead they were using the sessions as a means towards early parole.
Requesting a transfer I was sent to the New York Police Department and assigned to the sixteenth precinct’s Special Victims Unit. This new assignment changed my career from helping offenders to helping catch them. As a psychiatrist it is unfortunate that I often clash with the officers and the ADAs but professionally I often have to agree with the diagnosis of mental illness, even though personally I might not. Still even my professional detachment is known to falter when children are involved and on more than one occasion I have empathized with the victims more than I should.
Over the years my work has given me the opportunity to offer my assistance not only with figuring out the criminals but helping those who catch them as well. Most of the detectives trust me enough now to seek my assistance or at least accept my advice about personal and professional issues. While it isn’t the perfect life, it is my life and I am working towards making it better.
--Personality--likes/dislikes –
Dislikes: I dislike all sexual offenders especially those who hurt children. While I know that at times they are unable to control their mental illness, at other times they are perfectly lucid and well aware of their actions and how to control them. Sometimes they simply choose not to control themselves. I also dislike anyone who discriminates for any reason. Everyone should have the opportunity to excel and improve him or herself if they truly wish to.
Likes: I like the officers of the SVU unit. They are for the most part greatly committed to their work even though at times it is heartbreaking. Their dedication to the victims helps them realize that not everyone harbors such darkness inside. I also like music, nearly all kinds and you will be hard-pressed to find me without at least one of my iPods playing along when I am working alone, relaxing or simply watching.
--Traits, Weaknesses, Quirks –
I often empathizes with victims especially children and I have a strong desire to help the detectives not only professionally but personally. Perhaps my biggest weakness is that sometimes I trust when I shouldn’t and this can lead to my getting hurt mentally and physically.
Trivia:
Badge number: 2317616
Left handed
--Please include a sample RP--such as a first-person account of part of your character's workday or time at home.
“Sometimes those that appear to be the strongest fall the hardest.” The old saying kept reverberating through my brain as I looked at the detective. Finding those children like that couldn’t have been easy for any of them but the form slumped in the chair across form me betrayed just how hard it was to be a SVU detective. Professional detachment could only protect you for so long, sooner or later the day-to-day horrors broke down the walls.
I waited. I knew the detective wouldn’t talk until the demons had been brought under control, until they were able to silence or at least temporarily mute the screams. I watched. Brown eyes seemed to focus and their owner slowly came back to the present. I listened. Slowly at first then a bit more the floodgates opened and I learned what it meant to be Detective Olivia Benson.
